Sydona is a rope artist, movement practitioner, photographer, and creative who uses her extensive training and performance experience in classical dance to inspire her ventures into experimental and experiential art of all forms.
Originally from San Diego, California, Sydona has been training and performing as a professional dancer since she was thirteen. Since completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alvin Ailey/Fordham University in May of 2018, she has been performing in various nightlife around Brooklyn and New York City as a dancer, immersive performer, and rope artist. She uses her extensive training and performance experience as a foundation for her ventures into immersive theater, experimental performance art, and BDSM nightlife. In the past seven years she's performed at events (in no particular order) by House of Yes, House of Gemini and Scorpio, HAVEN, The Red Pavilion, The Box, Hit Me Up, Nuit Des Cordes, Folsom Street Fair, Dances of Vice and The Secret. In 2019 she co-built two 300 square foot installations at Industria and at Knockdown Center for events produced by Wizard Studios and in January of 2020, December of 2022, 2023, and 2024 she assisted Hajime Kinoko's large scale Shibari Web performances in NYC and San Francisco. She is currently a resident rope educator and facilitator at Temple and Hit Me Up, and manages a private rope and photography studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Since March of 2020, Sydona has immersed herself in honing her rope practice and photography. She’s focused (obsessed, perhaps) on finding as many opportunities for advanced Shibari education as possible, including intensive workshops with Hajime Kinoko, Soptik Zet, Ropunawa, Tamandua, Federico Kirigami, Murasaki Haruan, Yagami Ren, and Erato Banana as well as 30+ hours of private tuition with Federico Kirigami and Marta Tenshiko in Milan, Italy.
She currently works full time as a freelance nightlife performer, bondage artist, photographer, and creator. Although Brooklyn is her home base, she travels often both within the U.S. and internationally for rope opportunities, as a performer, as an educator, and as a student.
Sydona is available to hire for performances, demos, photoshoots, installations, and private rope sessions. Please inquire for references and see her offerings page for more information.
